How do you stop a losing streak?, Charles, 19. Aug 2002 21:26
View ( Message | Thread )       Return to Thread List
I used to think I was a fair "Weekend Warrior poker player" but since I started playing on line I can't win period. For the past three years
I have been playing 5-10 (5) Max Holdem online. Keeping tabs on a
monthly basis, I have only booked a win one month out of 36. I limit myself to a max of only $400.00 a month lost and the 400 hundred
dosen't hurt finacially so much, but it sure messes with my mind.

I study my play by having my hands emailed to me and running them thru Turbo Texas Holdem and for the most part I seem to play them right but at the table I still lose. Is there something about on line play that I'm missing? I'm not a pro for sure but I used to do fairly well at live low limit games at casino's when I felt up to driving the 500 miles
to the nearest casino. Good thing I still have my week day job. ( :

Maybe I should go back to Bridge. Any advise will be appreciated.
I hope this forum flys as there seems to be some good treads here.
Best hand to all, Charles

5 player tables are requiering quite different skills than full 10 tables, maybe this is why you lose, not the fact that it is online, rake is lower online.
Read Holdem for Advanced players by David Slansky, it has a section on shorthanded play.
am having a losing streak myself right now, which is why I read your post, am playing my regular game, rivers just killing me, but luck runs out, skill prevails, got to have faith in yourself or you will be run over.

Charles,
Couple of points..
- Generally I try to tighten way up when I am in a losing streak, playing fewer starting hands then normal, and waiting to pull out of the bad run of cards. You situation seems a bit different though, which leads me to the second point.

- Most 5-10 games on-line actually seem like they equate (in skill level) to the medium limit B&M games (10-20, 15-30). I think this has to do with the availability of the micro-limits on line (1-2, .5-1.00) that the less experienced players can't find in the B&M. You may want to try dropping back for a bit and playing 2-4 or 3-6, booking some wins, and then moving back up to 5-10.

Quit playing online. I think the games are rigged in someway. I can't beat 'em. Also, you should become skilled in more than one area of gambling.

If you must play online, try Omaha.

Hi Charles

Often, I see losing streaks that are in the mind of the player. If you are thinking negatively.......you almost can't win. I recommend that you take a couple of days off......get yourself feeling good (do something good for yourself) and play a game you are very likely to beat (smaller or easier)so you can build on a win and create some positive mental thoughts and momentum.
