In my regualar home game we play two games I would like advice on. The first is a slight variant of Draw poker we call Jacks-to-open, Trips-to-win. It is a progressive pot, so if no one gets trips, we re-ante and deal again. The pot can get pretty big, sometimes as much as 200x the low bet. Assuming there are 5 players playing, what would be suggestions for proper play. Is drawing one card to the flush or straight possible/proper? What to do with two pair?

Another game is low hole wild 7 card. In this game we play the low hole card and all like it (for each player) is wild. So if my first 3 cards are 2, A, 2--I have trip aces. Additonally, you have the option of taking the river card up or down. If you take it down and it is lower than your low hole card, your wild card can change. I have been playing it using my starting requirements for stud, but I seem to lose at this game frequently (thankfully I have convinced most of the guys to stick to stud, hold'em, omaha and draw). Should I loosen up my play?

Get a copy of "COMMON SENSE IN POKER" by Irwin Steig.
Believe it's out of print, but I see it on Ebay from time to time.
Great book about the most popular[at the time]dealer's choice home games.

_The_ book on home poker dealer's choice games is "The Rules of Neighborhood Poker according Holyle by Stewart Wolpin. This book has the most complete list of poker variations, and for the more popular games a discussion of how to play them.

My advice is to avoid games such as "jacks to open, trips to win". These games just get to unwieldly and are plain wacko. Just play straight up games such as 7 stud high-low with a closed or contract declaration with no qualifer for low.
