Why am I losing, Craig, 10. Aug 2002 21:42

I read and reread books on poker strategy and theory, take in what advice I get on the internet, and play what I think is very by the book and play conservative. I try to win one or two big bets per hour, and when I pull a great hand... it gets beat with a better hand. When I enter these hands, I calculate that im getting good pot odds and that there are 2 or 3 better hands that could win. I always seem to lose after all my studying. What is wrong with my game ?!?! The worst thing about it is when I start to go on tilt I buy more in- the typical stereotype of the sucker at the table trying to win his money back. Any advice for me would be appreciated.

Here is something about the micro-limit games [1-2] that I am learning.

Players raise and reraise with garbage expecting to knock out players like you. My advise [and it may be wrong] is call the raise on the flop or turn if you have a legitimate shot at the best hand and forget about pot odds.

They will call if you hit and will back them off for future hands.

Patience. Once you start to develop patience after the bad beats (and not becoming the sucker) you will eventually win with those good hands. It's the most difficult part of this screwed up game.......

Hi Craig

First the staement about tilt may be a big cause of your problem. If you get emotionally involved over losing your money you need to not play until your mental focus is such that you can make good decisions.

Secondly, if you are playing tight...are the other players reading your hands and making the correct decision against you most of the time? If you think this is the case you need to mix it up more and stop your opponets from reading you.
