interesting revelations, Dano Roo, 9. Aug 2002 12:27

While playing online recently, I noticed a feature on the site that logs statistical information about the way you play. One statistic that stood out was the fact that I saw 42% of the flops. The game was low limit ($1-$2) hold-em, and what I would consider to be a moderately tight passive game. My question is, am I staying in on too many mediocre hands? I`m new to poker, so if this question is is stupid please forgive me.

Hi Dano

That seems like a VERY high pertentage to me. Closer to 15% would be more along my lines of play. However, I play in a higher game that requires tighter hand selection. It sounds like you need to tighen up your startign hand requirements!

Roy,
Are you including Blind play in that figure? My percentage was running about 23% (and I felt like I was playing tight as heck) Maybe I haven't been as tight as I thought...

I consider percentages to include SB play but not BB.....No one mucks thier big blind when they get a free play...Game types affect number of hands playable...
Loose passive obviously allow a slightly increase in selection ,mainly draws..
Tight aggressive I would narrow my hands to the 15% Roy abides by for obvious reasons..Draws will get very expensive..While made hands are bet strongly..

Thanks for the responses. I heeded your advise and it made a tremendous difference in my game. I went from the afore mentioned 42% to 26% over a 300 hand period and actually made money! It was great to find myself in the driver`s seat after the flop much of the time. Actually dictating the action instead of giving it! Mucho Gracias!!!

It's all in the kicker, all in the kicker.
