i have been studying the game for a few months now (reading material, practicing etc...) and am finding progress in my play at the 4/8 table ( at the Bicycle club specifically) but when trying to move up to the 6/12 i took a really bad beating...is the texture of the game that much different?

I played at the Bicycle Club earlier this year for about a week. I played in 4-8, 6-12, and 9-18. The texture of all the games were pretty much the same, very loose (compared to what I'm used to). You may have just been at a very tough table. I wouldn't let one or two bad beats affect your confidence too much. Rebuild your bankroll at the 4-8 level, build your confidence back up again, and give it another crack at the 6-12.

If you can win consistently at the 4-8 games I believe you'll also be able to beat the 6-12 games. (In my opinion).

In general it's not a matter of texture but more one of the relationship of blind size to BR. You should play at a level where you feel the chips are like toothpicks instead of part of the rent money.

Then the important thing is to maintain respect for the game and not play with utter abandon. The requirement of having adequate BR (conventional wisdom says 300 big bets!) is best acknowledged.

Love.
