Don't peeve off the fishes, Eric Bush, 3. Aug 2002 08:33

I was playing in our semi-weekly home game (25 cents-$1.00 dealer's choice). We generally play casino games ie: HE, Omaha8, stud, etc.. but we also play some "wild" games" ie: 55, follow the queen, and my personal favorite 5-stud hi-lo (which has amazingly great action for what should be a simply boring game).
Anyway, I'm way off subject, this one lady who plays, and routinely loses $40 a night, was again losing steadily. She usually handles it quite well but she happened to be sitting next to one of the more obnoxious players in the game. In his defense he generally criticizes in an attmept to be funny, and even though I am often the butt of his jokes (as is everyone else) I find his wit quite comical. Back to the subject.... this lady, we'll call her Linda (since that's her name), was dealing, and for some reason she can't get the cards to the other side of the table, and when she does she very often flips one up accidentally. So, of course, she flipped one up again, and Dean (Mr. Oboxious) makes some comment about her dealing expertise. Well, whether it was the combination of her losing (again) and not having enough wine in the house, or just being sick of listening to Dean's crap, she freaks out, gathers her chips, and cashes out just a spittin and a sputterin all the way out the door.
So now were down to 5 handed (after being 8 handed for most the night) and the absolute worst person at the table is gone.

I think she overreacted, but this is a perfect case of everyone needing to understand that we need to keep the fishes happy, laugh and joke with them, lest they take their ball (and money) and go home.

Eric

PS. I won $60 in six hours (vain attempt at self satisfaction)

I shouldn't have said "worst person at the table", I meant to say worst poker player at the table. Linda is a wonderful person.
