| Many questions that are asked are too specific to hand selection and the exact hand holding. Most poker decisions are a funtion of WHO you are playing against, what is your ability to outplay the opponent(s) and what can happen after you act. Since most good poker questions are close decisions the answer almost always lies in those concepts. Roy Cooke | ||

My thought is theres many possible positional considerations during the actaul play of the hand..As we know the button is not always last to act.. jim Since most good poker questions are close decisions the answer almost > always lies in those concepts. > > Roy Cooke | ||

| Hi Jim Yes, when I say what may happen behind you, position is a big consideration...I also mean what is the propensity of given scenarios to actualize..... of course position is a factor in that equation. Roy Cooke | ||

| Sure many situations are people dependant. But a huge number of poker tradeoffs depend a lot more on general principles and philosophy. In almost all cases, you can define a "default play" which is the major thread or direction you would take, followed, if needed, by a set of variations based on playing styles out of the norm. | ||

| Hi Barry I find when I start thinking in those terms, I start using the "default play" more than I should out of sloppyness on my part. It is much more fun to flirt with the cocktail girls and play on auto-pilot....but that doesn't do much for my hourly rate. I know that is not what you meant...it is just how my mind gets if I start losing focus....and how my mind works at a poker table (maybe I have ADD :-). I find I play better if I think on the terms that I shall take nothing for granted and think through each decision on an individual basis. Roy Cooke | ||

| I absolutely agree AT THE TABLE. I was saying that FOR ANALYSIS, and for answering questions on a forum, there is a general logic of answwer that can be given, instead of just commenting " have to be at the table" or "It depends on how everyone plays. | ||
