ever think a player must be phycic ?a stranger sat down at a regular holdem game i play and said, ready for some voodoo holdem,he did not play every hand, but the hands he played went like this: he cold calls a pre flop raise, the flop is AK8 rainbow, he cold calls flop raise. turn and river are 66, he turns over 62 offsuit. whatta ya think? ps i know the game is honest, i know the dealers personnally

I do think that many good players have an "intuitive sense" where they can read opponents minds and hands. I don't think this is anything extraordinary, I just think that it is a subliminal pickup of information through tells and logical associations. Developing that "sixth sense" can HUGELY increase your edge in poker.

Hi, John --

It sure seems as if some players are psychic sometimes. But, you shouldn't be intimidated by this. If you watch carefully, there will often be players who are winning despite the odds against them and who may seem psychic. But if you come back the next night, sure, someone is performing this miracle all over again.

But, you know what? It probably isn't the same player. Here's one way you can psychologically condition yourself to accept the fact that poor players get lucky. Just remind yourself:

Poor players take turns seeming to be psychic for short periods. But they all lose in the long run.

Straight Flushes,
Mike Caro
