| September 11 changed Las Vegas....fewer tourists came.....the casinos spend more marketing dollars to fill their hotel rooms.....and the volume per tourist bet has gone down, partially because of the stock market crash and partially because of the lower level of travel. This all affected Las Vegas poker. Initially few tourists came to town. Most poker pros, on limited bankrolls head off for greener pastures to California. Now with the tourists returning...there are few good pros in the games. While there are fewer games, on weekends when the tourists show up, the quality of those games is as good as I have ever seen. I haven't played in Las Vegas since 9/11. What you say seems logical, though. I think these things run in cycles. For years, I believe the California games have been easier to beat. Maybe the tide is turning. We'll see. Straight Flushes, Mike Caro | ||

| first, congrats to Roy and Mike, hopefully this becomes a great forum to visit and exchange poker ideas, theories, thoughts, plays, etc. as far as Vegas is concerned, here's my take : I don't live in Vegas, I live in California and visit Vegas about once every other month for 3 to 7 days each. I actually don't play much poker there because frankly, I can get the same action (most of the time actually better) in California, and I can get alot more action at the short games at Planet Poker. It makes the live games very dull and boring when I actually have to wait 30 seconds for my next hand. In the 5 handed Planet game, most of the time you get a new hand within 15 seconds. I find myself bored to death at live tables these days. Anyway, what I really wanted to contribute here was simply to say that in the last couple of months, I have received free 2 night stays at Luxor, Treasure Island, Alladin and Venetian. Completely comped. The interesting thing is that I barely played at any of these places. Maybe I spent a maximum of one hour playing blackjack or craps (I know, I know..but I'm just having fun :) ) at each of these places and in return I get 2 nights free? That is a fantastic deal in my opinion. This is from a guy who always had to shell out $50+ for rooms at the Flamingo, and sometimes would even take the free rooms at the Palace Station if I was driving to Vegas so I could have a car to get to the other casinos. What this tells me is that it seems the casinos are very desparate to get people in town. In someone like me, I won't be worth the money for them. I wonder how many people like me that they are inviting in for free, who won't give them back in return what they need. So if you see the streets packed, the casinos packed with lots of walkers, it doesn't necessarily mean things are back to normal yet. | ||

| Hi Doc I agree tha tthe casinos are not doing as well and must spend more marketing dollars to get traffic inot the casoino. However many of the pros have left town and what is left is NOT the level of quality of play that was here 1 year ago. The games are great on weekends, as good as I have ever seen in this town.
